Girls cross country makes it to CIF pre-eliminations

Daniel Rodarte

Can you stay consistent with your goals to accomplish your dreams? Girls Cross Country worked hard and made it to the preliminary rounds of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Our girls put in some major work and walked away with 6th place.

18-year-old senior Arianna Mendoza has been in Cross Country for all 4 years. She states that her motivation is making it past the finish line and making everyone feel proud. She prepares herself for the race by eating well, staying hydrated, and having a positive mindset. She feels that having a good mindset is what makes the difference between a good and a bad runner. Her one piece of advice is to “enjoy the pain because in the end, it will all be worth it.”

Hailey Contreras, a 16-year-old junior on the Varsity team, has been on the team for 3 years. She is very excited yet nervous to be at CIF for the 2nd time since her freshman year. Contreras states, “What motivates me is my family and my teammates. I feel like your teammates are a big part of Cross Country because they’re the ones that you want to keep pushing so all of us can excel.” She prepared for the race by having a positive mindset, eating a good breakfast, and being in a good environment. In her opinion, a good runner in Cross Country is someone who has a good positive state of mind and good physical capabilities. Her piece of advice is to always be persistent and patient in life because it will get you far.

Yessenia Chavez, a 16-year-old junior on the Varsity team, has also been a part of the team for 3 years. She feels pretty excited and anxious to see how it’s going to go, but overall pretty hyped to have made it this far. Her motivation is the fact that the sport is fun and the people are great, which creates a good environment. She prepared herself by doing her best in practice and hydrating. Chavez says, “I think what makes a good runner is not only the skill or the stamina to run, but I think it’s the attitude they have towards the sport and the motivation determination that they should have to be in this sport because it doesn’t just take running 3 miles, you have to have the guts and the personality for it too.” Her advice is to not give up easily and to not be too hard on yourself because you’ll never move forward.

All the players in the Girls Cross Country team tried their hardest this season and accomplished their goal of making it to CIF. All of our runners did an amazing job. Make sure to congratulate the team and encourage them in their upcoming seasons.
