Hi coyotes! During the month of February we got the opportunity to learn about the culinary arts program. Culinary arts is an ROP course where students are given the chance to learn a very important life skill. It is a 3 year program where each year students explore different levels of being in the kitchen. Students also get the chance to earn certifications such as an E-Food Handlers Card.
Along with learning about the program itself, we were also able to interview students in each of the different classes to help us understand how each year differs from the previous year. Here is how that went.
Crystal Zavala started off by asking “Why did you decide to take this class?”
Jaxton says “I really like food, I like cooking, I always thought it was fun and it was just like a thing for me”
Crystal then asks “What are some favorite things you have done in this class?”
Jaxton answers by saying “Definitely cook with my team, I think its fun, like communicating and making good food, using teamwork to make 5 star food”
Crystal ended by asking “Do you plan on taking this class for 3 years? If so, why?”
Jaxton says “I do because i feel like this class is easy for me, i always get my work done and it’s something i want to pursue in life, cooking is fun for me”
Leslie Ramirez started off by asking “why did you decide to take this class?”
Bryan answers by saying “i decided because i always wanted to learn how to cook for myself and i always wanted to cook for my family”
Leslie then asks “what are the favorite things you’ve made throughout the years?”
Bryan says “my first year my favorite thing was probably learning how to bake cookies because i bake a lot of cookies now, second year it was probably ravioli, my third year it was probably making pizza into a heart shape for valentines, that was nice”
Leslie then asks “what are your favorite memories?”
Bryan says “one of my favorite memories was when, I think it was my second year and it was my friend Sergio, he was trying to roll out dough and then he got it all over himself because he couldn’t roll it out.”
Leslie asks “other than the food what encouraged you to stay in the three year program?”
Bryan says “chef p definitely encouraged me to stay in this class because she is always motivational and she always brings positive energy to the classroom and otherwise my friends in the class”
Leslie ends off by asking “do you feel that the skills you’ve learned will help you later in life?”
Bryan says “i think it will because it teaches you leadership, it helps you stay focus on one thing because you always, not one thing but multiply things at the same time because you have to focus on your teammates or you always have to think about all the other things that are going into what your cooking”
Crystal Zavala started off by asking “why did you decide to take this class?”
Huda then says “i decided to take this class because i was a first year student and chefs class is very fun and i love to learn how to cook and be with my friends”
Crystal then asks “have you encountered any challenges in this class? If so explain”
Huda says “yeah this year was new so we got to try more types of food and like more bigger things like meat and stuff, so it was kinda hard”
We are beyond thankful to have been able to explore the culinary arts program.
