On January 11th, Buena Park High School’s JV/Varsity Cheer and Varsity Song teams participated in a SHARP competition held at AB Miller High School. Each team delivered a performance lasting 2 minutes and 30 seconds, which included a dance, a cheer, and stunts. The Varsity Cheer team secured second place, while the JV Cheer team also finished in second. The Varsity Song team earned third place. In addition to these achievements, the overall team was awarded a spirit stick and a significant trophy.
When the team arrived at the high school, they had been slowly getting ready and barely starting their warmups because they were perfectly on time. However, varsity cheer started getting rushed and had to perform just 15 minutes after showing up because the teams before them had gone ahead of schedule. The feeling of being rushed caused them to panic and not feel prepared enough to perform. Although they were rushed to perform, they did their very best and were able to grasp the second-place trophy.
Two JV cheerleaders, Anabella Rodarte and Camila Ubando, stepped up to perform with the Varsity squad after two Varsity cheerleaders were injured and unable to participate. Thanks to their efforts, the Varsity team was able to maintain their strong performance.
The Varsity song team achieved third place overall in the competition. They dedicated countless hours to practice, even making changes from their first competition to improve their performance this time around.
Following the awards ceremony, there were some fun competitions. A few of our cheerleaders competed against other schools to showcase their best cheer jumps. Although they didn’t place, they felt like winners in their hearts. At the end of the event, everyone received a silver medal to take home as a keepsake.
