The World of BP Spirit
During the month of November we got the chance to learn more about BPHS Spirit. So what is spirit? Spirit concludes Cheerleading and Song though these thing may seems similar they do indeed have there differences, Cheerleading is a mix of gymnastics and stunts while song is more focused on the dancing part of the sport, they do not participate in any of the lifting on the team such as stunts or tumbling, they do participate in turns, jumps and kicks.
This team represents our school and does a great job doing so. We have recently got the chance to watch them practicing for the competition they had on November 16th, they took home first place throughout the entire competition Including the special event such as jumping and stunts!
Before the competition we were able to interview one of their coaches Ms.Klaus. Here’s how it went.
Alexis started off by asking “Why did you decide to help coach cheer?”
Mrs. Klaus said “I decided to help coach cheer because I kind of wanted to bridge the gap between dance and cheer. I know a lot of schools have issues where the programs don’t get along and when I started here it kind of felt like that a little bit and I felt like there was always this competition between both groups when in reality we kind of do the same thing and we should be supporting each other so, that was one of the main reasons why I wanted to do that.
Alexis then asked “What’s the difference between song and cheer.”
Mrs. Klaus answered “The difference between song and cheerleading is that the song is more of dancing with poms and cheering versus cheering where they’re doing stunts and cheering.”
Alexis also asked “How would you describe the team?”
Mrs. Klaus says “I think our school’s teams are really good.”
Finally, Alexis asked “ When did you begin to coach cheer and do you plan on doing it long term?”
Mrs. Klaus said “I began two years ago and long term, I can see myself doing it long term only because I do like it so much. Being honest I didn’t think I was going to enjoy cheer as much but I actually really enjoy the sport as a whole. I feel like it’s brought new light to me to see what to do and the athleticism involved in it and I have high respect for all cheerleaders.”
Though we weren’t able to interview our Athletic Director Mykeal Terry we got the enough information we needed from Ms.Klaus, Now we hope to see all the new coyotes coming in and trying out for the spirit team for the year 25-26!
