When you heard of Buena Park, you would’ve thought about just the city. As time went by Buena Park started to be even more known. This time, because of the men’s soccer team. As you may know, the soccer team here at Buena Park High is well known and a phenomenal team on and off the field. The team has had many wins, losses, ups, and downs. Nevertheless, it wasn’t always this way.
2021-2022
OVERALL: 3W – 10L – 5D LEAGUE: 0W – 9L – 1D
As the 2021-2022 season kicked off, everyone was so excited for the season to begin as it was the start of something new for the program as it had a generational change with 4 freshmen starting on Varsity (Emmanuel Jimenez, Ruben Delgado, Isaiah Ortiz, and Alexander Hipolito-Cristino). The team was excited to start off their season as they had high hopes for the season. As they began with scrimmages and preseason, they came up on a rough start. Going into the league they were going in at a 3-1-4 record, making that a horrible start to the season. As the season began they also did not do well as they didn’t win a single game, lost 9, and tied 1. Keep in mind though, this was an investment for the future as they were developing their freshman to gain experience for the next couple years. That season was one to forget and move forward from as we had a couple more years to look forward to!
2022-2023
OVERALL: 13W – 8L – 2D LEAGUE: 5 W – 4L – 1D
As the new season was around the corner, the boys were excited to begin the new season as they were coming for revenge for last year. They began their preseason with a record of 8-3-1, this was a great start going into league play! As the boys commenced their first league game, they came off a strong 4-1 Win against a strong Sonora team. The next 3 games were rough as they had 1 Tie and 2 Losses but they found a way to bounce back and manage to get 3 league wins in a row. They ended off their league play with a record of 5-4-1 and clenched 3rd place for a chance to qualify for C.I.F. for the first time in many long years for the Coyotes men’s soccer team. The day had come for the boys to make history and have the opportunity to play wildcard to advance to C.I.F. As the game kicked off, everyone was filled with excitement, joy, and passion to begin this journey to make history. The boys commenced and had an intense start attacking for the majority of the first half. Unfortunately, the boys conceded before the half end and went to halftime down 1-0. The boys continued to fight and got awarded a pk but unfortunately they missed the pk. Shortly after, Alexander Hipolito had scored off a rebound to make it 1-1 and send them to overtime, but the referee disallowed the goal. This caused the game to end in a 1-0 loss and eliminated from C.I.F. As their season came to an end, the boys were proud of their efforts even though they didn’t advance. It was the start of something new and big. expecting more and better results in the coming years.
2023-2024
OVERALL: 17W – 8L – 3D LEAGUE: 6W-6L
The 2023-2024 year began and the team lost really important seniors but we wanted to build more upon the history they made the year before. Even though there was hate towards the soccer program they believed they had the team to go far and possibly win league and CIF. As preseason began it was a good preseason but then some conflicts within the team and coaches, impacting the way the team performed. In order to make this team succeed and win like they wanted to, they needed to be on the same page. They began to work and finished preseason with a loss that shouldn’t have happened and got ready for league but also started off with two losses. The overall league record was 5 wins and 5 losses which would cost them the chance to fight for first in the league and then would take them to play two more games in one day for third place allowing the winner to advance to CIF. The opponents were Sonora High School who they defeated 5-0 and would let them play against Fullerton High School in one of the most memorable games from going down to 10 players in the fourteenth minute, going into extra time, and having a huge crowd with people from different schools against the Buena Park Men’s Soccer Program. Even though it was one the toughest games they ever played they were able to get the win in penalties. The team wasn’t able to accomplish winning the league. They knew they had a chance to fight for CIF which was a dream come true to be in it. It was time for CIF to begin and all the games were nerverecking. The team knew there was no holding back in these next games it would be to win or go home. Kick off began for CIF and in the first the team was able to get the win with a goal from Angel Alvarado in overtime against Trabuco Hills High School. Advancing to round 2 they faced themselves against Saddleback High School and got the win 3-2 in overtime with a game winner from Edwin Conriquez. In the quarterfinals they went against a very strong Thousand Oaks High School soccer team that they were able to win in penalties with a winning save from Yandel Salcedo. They were able to reach the semifinals one more game from the CIF final but unfortunately didn’t go the way the team and fans wanted it to go losing 4-2 against a very talented Animo Leadership High school. Sadly the hard work and dedication this team made that year wasn’t good enough to make them reach the goal they had in mind. At the end of the day they made history that will always be remembered.
2024-2025
We are excited to see the Buena Park High School Men’s Soccer play this season. This summer they have made history by beating the host, Artesia High School 9-2 in the Artesia Summer Tournament. They made it to the finals to go against Warren which they had beat our coyotes 3-1 starting up the tournament. The Coyotes won the tournament beating Warren in penalty´s after a hard fight they went through of 80 minutes just giving it their all. This made Buena Park High School get its first title in history. Coaches and Players are excited to see what we could give this year. We have brought up new players and also had over 120+ kids trying out to be part of the men’s soccer team.
