Social Media is used by 97% of students every day. A lot of students are influenced by the posts they see online. In this article, we interviewed some staff and students on what their opinions are on social media and when it is the right time to take a step back from social media.
The first person we interviewed was the yearbook teacher, Mr. Blea. When asked about his pros and cons of social media, he said “I think it can bring people together and it can be a good place to connect with people who like similar things as you.” He also said he thinks it can be really addicting. Mr. Blea thinks social media can bring some anxiety or depression and affect your mental health.
Next, we interviewed a senior, Alex Delgado. Alex’s pros and cons of social media are that you can connect with your friends and family and the con is that it’s a distraction sometimes. We asked Alex how he thinks social media affects mental health, he believes it causes you some pressure, He says that people who are addicted to social media should limit their time and go on walks.
And finally, we interviewed a senior, April Madriles. Her pro of social media is if people or family live far they’re able to see what you’re doing by posting. She believes social media does affect your health because there are a lot of negative things online and there are comments that could put you down.
Social media is something people are ambivalent about. It could be a good and beneficial way of relieving stress by viewing funny videos or texting your friends, or it could cause lots of problems like anxiety, or drama. People who are affected negatively by social media should take time to themselves and take a step back away from social media.
