All the way in the back section of Buena Park High School is a hidden gem known as the Agriculture Department, where you’ll find an involved and caring teacher who goes by Ms. Cortez.

Pictured above, Ms. Cortez is going over a slide presentation over the history of Floral and Arts. Her classes are always a mix of independent and interactive work which is great for people who like the best of both worlds.
Going into Ms. Cortez’s class is very relaxing experience as she keeps a quiet yet talkative class. There is always chill music playing whether its old school or electro pop, the vibes are always nice.
When asked what she like most about teaching she responded by noting that she loves to see students develop as its very special. She appreciates, “… learning about her students personalities and who they are.”
As a student in Ms. Cortez’s class you’ll always feel that going to her for any help of questions is very easy and she is happy to help as needed. Later in the interview, she stated that she believes “… putting maximum effort and being a positive role model for students is highly important and that all teachers should do that.” She looks for potential in her students and sympathizes with her students home life, as not everyone has it easy. She emphasizes getting to know her students’ personalities to truly see their potential and how to maximize it.
Cortez elaborates that she was inspired to go into teaching by one of her fellow teachers here at Buena Park. Ms. Cortez loves being an agriculture teacher as its so diversified. She explains that working with floral, seeing students develop, and working with animals on the farm are what makes her job so special. All around, Ms. Cortez runs a strict yet purposeful program as her classes offer special opportunities unique from any other on campus. Ms. Cortez is always talking and collaborating with students to help give them the best chance in succeeding in whatever they do in her class, and outside of the classroom.
