The BPHS Orchestra finally returns with a new and exciting concert for us! They’ve worked countless weeks and poured much time and effort into this brand new concert. This year round, they have delivered more advanced pieces to the audience, giving us a taste that they’re not just a beginner orchestra with minimal experience.
What was this concert for, you might ask? Well, this concert was an opportunity for the high school orchestra to preview their festival set. Another thing, they also partnered with the Buena Park Middle School orchestra to give them a glimpse at what a concert at the high school is like.
The pieces performed by the high school orchestra were 3 beautiful pieces. Their first piece was “Pieces of Eight,” by Richard Meyer. A piece to introduce musicians into more advanced rhythms and melodies, but don’t be fooled; it was an amazing orchestral piece that was heavily enjoyed by the audience. Their next composition was “Little Symphony” by Carold Nunez. “Little Symphony” is a piece that introduces new bowing styles, showing them in quicker movements and bouncing off the strings. Their final piece of the night was “Dance Scenario,” a fast-paced piece made to catch the audience’s attention and excite them.
Towards the end of the concert, both the middle school students and the high school students came together to play one final piece. “How to Train Your Dragon” by John Powell, arranged by Robert Longfield, was the final piece of the night. It was an interesting piece that was based on some Scottish culture due to the viking nature of the “How to Train Your Dragon” films.
The final notes were played, and the conductors cut through the air, bringing the concert to an end. The audience gave a huge applause, showing their appreciation for the musicians, as well as Mr. Skinner, our Band and Orchestra director. As everyone left, they kept the feeling that they enjoyed the concert, and that it would stay memorable for them as they move about their daily lives.
