Spring break is one of the breaks we students have in the middle of the school year. It’s one of the breaks we look forward to since it’s almost the end of the school year. Most Students take this time to hang out with their friends and family. Some also do some traveling during this time.
History of Spring Break
You may not know it, but Spring Break has been around for a long time. The Story Behind Spring Break published on Onlineschool.org has stated that, “ The concept of spring break began in 1938 with a swim forum event in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. “ As we mentioned before, Spring Break is used for relaxing while you recharge to finish school strong. An interesting fact that Onlineschool.org talked about was that Ft. Lauderdale was later known as Ft. Liquordale because college students in the 1960s used to go there to party.
When is Spring Break?
Around the United States everyone has a different time when their spring break is. Us students at Buena Park High School just had our spring break from March 17-21. Spring break happens mid-March through early April.
What do people do over Spring Break?
During Spring break, most people love to travel, visit new places, and just be outdoors because the weather is warmer. According to WWLP they state these are the top ten spring break destinations, “ Orlando, Florida, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Atlanta, Georgia, Miami, Florida, New York, New York, Honolulu, Hawaii, Los Angeles/Anaheim, California, Tampa, Florida, Chicago, Illinois, Charlotte, North Carolina. “ Most people travel to these places for the weather or theme parks. Orlando, Florida, and Anaheim, California, are home to Disneyland and Disneyworld, which makes those places really popular during spring break. For people who don’t travel over spring break and like to stay close to home, most also visit Knotts Berry Farm, which is in Buena Park, CA. Besides traveling and visiting amusement parks, people love to go to the beach. Lucky for us who live in Orange County we have multiple beaches all around us. The County of Orange has a website where you can see a list of beaches and harbors. You can also see much more and where to go for Zoos, Historical sites, Regional and Wilderness Parks, and Travel & Transportation. You should definitely visit the website if you want to go somewhere nearby!
Percentage Rates of places during Spring Break
Clearly during the time when people aren’t in school, places start getting more crowded. As we mentioned earlier, Disneyland is a place that is really popular ( more than usual ) during March and April. Although we don’t have an exact percentage of how much their visitors increase, Disneyland does have a “ Crowd Calendar” on their website. Overlooking the calendar, we mostly saw red and orange which means heavy crowds are expected, and above average crowds.
The Cost of Spring Break
Not everyone has the privilege to go traveling during spring break. That can be because everything is very pricey. Not only can it be the cost, but some parents can’t afford to leave work. Some parents might need their older kids to take care of their younger siblings. Parents who have more kids can be more expensive because they have to pay for multiple people. According to New York News 12 they state, “All-Inclusive vacations tend to run between $1,500, if you are lucky to go to one of the less expensive resorts up to $3,000. Then, of course, there are the luxury, all-inclusive resorts that could cost $5,000 per person.” With that being said, you can see how traveling can add up.
