After two long months of waiting, the BPHS Concert Band is finally going to play on stage again! The concert this time is greater and more spectacular than ever, with not only our talented high school musicians but also a special feature with the Buena Park Middle School bands. With a lineup of exhilarating and energetic pieces, this concert promises to be a night to remember, full of music and zest.
A Special Collaboration
Representing the Buena Park Middle School are one of the gems of this concert: their beginning and intermediate bands, who will be performing with us tonight. Both bands will have a chance to showcase their efforts and musical progress. This alliance between middle school and high school musicians not only gives a sense of belonging, but it also acquaints young students with the excitement of what is ahead for high school band.
A Deeper Examination of the Program
The BPHS Concert Band will perform two interesting pieces: Rampage! by Todd Stalter and The Country Club Stomp! by Jarod Hall.
Rampage! – Appropriately enough, as its title implies, this work is full of dynamism, power, and an air of discordant tumult evocative of combat. But in the midst of racing tempos and stark dynamics, the work also includes passages of orchestral splendor, providing a contrast between the warlike tumult of battle and the serenity that precedes it.
The Country Club Stomp! – Following the rousing Rampage! performance, this piece is a welcome and sunny relief. Its bright, happy melodies and lively rhythms will send the audience out into the night on a high.
With these pieces, the BPHS and BPMS bands will unite for a combined performance of the iconic Star Wars theme, a solid and iconic conclusion to the concert.
Excitement Among the Performers
For many of our musicians, this concert holds special significance. We had the chance to speak with some of them to hear their thoughts leading up to the performance.
Senior Christoppher Herrarte-Lopez, a dedicated band member for all four years of high school, shared his excitement about the upcoming concert. He emphasized that this performance will be more dramatic and emotional in content, which will distinguish it from the previous concerts. “It’s going to be more dramatic and emotional,” he elaborated further, explaining that it would be “overall better than the previous concerts.” Christoppher has played some instruments, including tuba, trombone, and euphonium, but is now focusing particularly on marching snare drum and cannot wait to give his best on stage.
Junior Israel Nieto, who has been a member of the band for the past three years, also shared his perspective. As a special percussionist for drum set and other percussion instruments, he is looking forward to delivering an energetic and intense performance.
A Night to Remember
The concert was a big hit, with energetic performances, joy, and a true celebration of music. The musicians from the middle school played beautifully, satisfying the crowd and showing their dedication.
Special thanks are also offered to Mr. Locke of Buena Park Middle School for going out of his way and bringing his students to perform with us and to our band director, Mr. Skinner, for leading and directing us through another great concert.
Thank you all for attending and supporting us—hope you had a good time listening to the music, and see you all at our next and final concert of the year!
