Buena Park High School’s girls’ JV soccer team put up a strong defensive effort on Senior Night but ultimately fell 1-0 to Godinez.
The game started off with Godinez dominating the ball but couldn’t find a way through BP’s defense until 27 minutes into the first half, scoring the only goal of the match. With five minutes left in the half, Buena Park had a chance to equalize on a free kick, but the opposing defense blocked the attempt and took control of the ball.
Early in the second half, Buena Park’s goalie Juliette made a great save on a powerful strike down the middle by one of Godinez’s strikers. Just minutes later, she denied another pass attempt into the box and secured the cross to keep her team in the game. Despite their defensive efforts, Buena Park couldn’t find a way to reach Godinez’s net, and the match ended 1-0 in favor of Godinez.
We got a couple of interviews with some of the players. One of them was Jeniffer Barrientos, a left-back. They have been playing soccer for the school for three years. She is a junior so she isn’t leaving yet but we got her thoughts on senior night. “It’s still my Junior year so I’m not leaving soon. I plan to play next year, but seeing the emotions of the seniors today makes it kind of bittersweet knowing that this day will come soon for me”.
The different emotions going all around felt so different, on one side you would see people tearing up because it is their last year and other people are proud of what they have done in the years during their soccer years. Most of the people that were not seniors said they were ready for the next year and we’re excited to see how it would go.
There were many goodbye posters and flowers. For every senior, they announced the name of the person and how long they had been participating in soccer. The night ended with both teams showing respect to each other, and Buena Park players took photos with family and friends to finish off their Senior Night celebration.
