New Years Traditions
Do you ever wonder how traditions start? Britannica states that the New Year’s traditions go back all the way to ancient Babylonians around 200 BC. “ In early medieval times, most of Christian Europe regarded March 25, the Feast of the Annunciation, as the beginning of the new year, although New Year’s Day was observed on December 25 in Anglo-Saxon England.” New Year has been around for a long time but a lot has changed since then.
Popular Goals
Like everyone else with the new year, people set goals to achieve by the end of the year. America’s Top New Year’s Resolutions 2025 explains these are the most common New Year’s goals. In order they are, “to save more money, to eat healthier, to exercise more, to lose weight, to spend more time with family/friends, to quit smoking, and to reduce spending on living expenses.” As we did some research we came upon the 6 most common goals which were listed above.
Tips to achieve New Year goals
Something you may wonder as the year goes on is how are you going to achieve your goal. UC Davis has some good tips on how to make a change in the new year, such as; “Give your resolution time to become a habit. Making it a habit can be a good thing because it shows you how to stay consistent and how to keep pushing to accomplish your goal. Consistency is something that is important because it causes the behavior to stick. Here is a tip from Cigna to make your goals stick, “Start with small goals, make them measurable, be realistic, make a plan, and stay positive. “
Why do people not achieve their goals?
Like no other, staying consistent can be hard especially when you have other things going on. According to Habitify they state that people don’t achieve their goals because, “we didn’t translate goals into daily actions, we don’t track ourselves, we did not try to achieve your goals the strategic way.” Setting unrealistic goals is also something that can lead to not achieving your goal. Do you ever wonder about the percentage? Well, according to Medium, “ 92% of people fail to achieve their goals.”
Are New Year’s Goals important?
Coming into a new year is a chance where you can forget old habits and come up with new habits. CSI explains, “Reflecting on the year and setting goals and intentions for the new year is a powerful exercise for personal and professional growth. By taking the time to evaluate achievements, identify areas for improvement, and set meaningful goals, you can pave the way for a successful and fulfilling new year.” Setting new goals is important because it can help you grow as a person as well.
