This past January 15th our JV soccer team played against Garden Grove High School, leading up to this event our Coyotes had strong weeks of hard work now going into the Grand New Golden West League. Being introduced to this league brought brand new faces to our field, But without a doubt, we know how much time and effort our Coyotes always put into the games and practices. No matter who is in their way they find a way to go through the challenges they put into.
The game started, and we continued to pass the ball and keep possession of it. The Coyotes are led by Vanni Sanchez and his brother in crime Santiago Sanchez who plays as their center mid. Winning possession of the 50/50 balls we were able to get a few chances off the counter attacks unluckily the finishing wasn’t there and strikers Emiliano Avila and Iker Herandez had many chances but got blocked by the goalkeeper from Garden Grove. As the game went on our Coyotes were faced with a new challenge as Garden Grove was able to get on the scoreboard first making it 1-0, followed by counterattack mistakes leading the first half to finish at 2-0 leaving the Coyotes to be losing by 2 goals.
But as their coach tells the team “With a step back there’s a chance to take 2 steps forward” They now make a few substitutions and play a more offensive formation as they need goals and a comeback. Our number 10 Youcef Hakim was able to do a fantastic job the first few minutes getting the team forward and sending through balls to Andrew Jiminez who was able to get close to the goal and take shots. It seems as if we are closer and closer to getting on the scoreboard. Santiago Sanchez held down the defensive end of the midfield keeping the back line clean Vannie Sanchez had Garden Grove strikers on locks not being able to get to our goal. Finally, the Coyotes break loose, and GOAL!!! , Landon Burg gets one for the team making it 1-0. We are in the final minutes of the game and the Coyotes keep working hard the clock is ticking and seconds go by and out of nowhere struck a lighting GOAL!!!! Andrew Jimenez gets on the scoreboard and manages to help the team walk away with a tie and avoid taking the loss. The Coyotes weren’t able to get the win they wanted but proudly say they worked hard enough to get the tie. Thank you to all who helped support our JV Soccer team and we hope to see you guys at their future games. GO COYOTES!!!
Interview with Santiago Sanchez
Katie: Who am I here with today?
Santiago: Santiago Sanchez,
Katie: How are your thoughts on your game coming back from injury?
Santiago: I felt good to play again, but unfortunately, we didn’t get the result we wanted. I mean, we did fight hard, we tied 2:2 , but I feel like we let two easy goals in the first half that shouldn’t have happened, and we could have prevented it because we got lazy in the first half, but the second half we fought, and we ended up tying the game.
Katie: How do you think you guys season is going so far?
Santiago: I don’t think it’s going the best so far, because we haven’t won. We lost one, and then we tied one. So hopefully in the future, we win, we win the rest of the games, and hopefully win league.
Katie: Last question, what’s your goal as an athlete and as a team player?
Santiago: My goal as an athlete is help my team succeed and hopefully, eventually, maybe go to college, and we’ll see where that takes me as a player.
