Buena Park High School girls’ JV soccer team played against Kennedy High School in an intense home game for Buena Park that kicked off at 3:15 p.m. The game began with an early goal from Kennedy, who quickly took the first 1-0 lead. However, Buena Park wasted no time in responding, with Adriana Martinez scoring an equalizer to tie the score at 1-1.
The excitement for the home team scoring was cut short, as Kennedy scored again shortly after to regain the lead at 2-1. The rest of the first half saw Kennedy dominate offensively, getting many opportunities to score. Despite being under constant pressure, Buena Park’s defense held their ground keeping the score at 2-1 to end the half.
After both teams huddled up during halftime, Buena Park returned to the field determined to turn the game around. However, Kennedy’s defensive pressure continued to hold back Buena Park’s attempts to create scoring chances. Kennedy had opportunities to extend their lead with both a free kick and a corner kick, but Buena Park was locked in defensively and prevented Kennedy from scoring.
The match concluded with a final score of 2-1 in favor of Kennedy. Both teams displayed admirable effort and resilience throughout the game. After the game was over we got to interview Jennifer Barrientos who is a defender for Buena Park. We asked her how she motivates her teammates and she said, “I keep them reassured and determined with words of motivation and remind them that we are never out of a game until the final whistle.”
