On December 6, 2024, our school hosted a Winter assembly before the Christmas break to celebrate our Winter sports teams, which included girls’ and boys’ soccer, girls’ and boys’ basketball, wrestling, water polo, and the Buena Park Spirit. The assembly featured introductions of all teams and players and a brief highlight reel for each group. The varsity and JV cheer, song, and dance teams also performed during the event. Here are a few photos of the spirit and dance team
The band and choir performed “Jingle Bells,” followed by the alma mater and the Pledge of Allegiance. The winter assembly was a resounding success, as every winter sport received recognition from the entire school. Clips showcasing each sport’s games, practices, and notable achievements this season were presented. When each sport was announced, everyone stood and applauded, highlighting the assembly’s significance in demonstrating that school is not solely about academics. Sports provide an opportunity for students to have fun, forge new friendships, and showcase their skills and passion. Additionally, the assembly featured interactive elements, with some students chosen to play games, encouraging participation in festive Christmas-themed activities. Overall, this assembly serves as an excellent way to inspire more students to get involved in sports.
We gathered feedback from a few athletes regarding the assembly, and here’s what they had to say. Soccer player Josue Gonzalez remarked, “It was very well organized, and they had all the soccer players seated together.” Cheerleader and dancer Angelina Sandoval shared her thoughts: “I enjoyed the assembly; it’s one of my favorites besides International Day. Being part of the performances is so much fun, and I love the energy from everyone involved in sports.” Finally, basketball player Elias Sanchez expressed, “It was a fun assembly, and it was entertaining to step outside of class and watch everyone perform.”
