On October 3rd in the PAC, the curtains opened at 7 PM to begin a night full of magical and lively performances. The Fall Choral Concert included performances from the BP Vocal Ensemble, Concert Choir, and the CSUF Choir. Live music was played by a Jazz band, accompanying the wonderful singers. At the night’s start, every seat in the theater was filled as people crowded to support our singing coyotes.
Before the concert, the choir director Mrs. DeWeese shared some heartfelt messages about the show and her excitement to share it. The first act started with an ensemble singing of an Italian art song, “O del mio dolce ardor.” The act featured soloists Rebekah Snyder, Alyssa Cervantes, Theodore Williams, Anna Early, and Yesenia Gaytan Vasquez. One of the fan favorites was a duet performance of “Dime Cómo Quieres” between Isabella Rodelo and David Guzman. The Concert Choir sang their selection of songs, including 70’s hit “Your Song” by Elton John and “Glory, Glory.” Performances by the Vocal Ensemble included “From the Start” by Laufey and “When You’re Smilin’.”
The second act introduced the Cal State Fullerton Choir, directed by Teryn Ré Carter. Miranda Mower, a student of the program, sang her arrangement of “Dindi” by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Other songs performed by the program included “I’m Old Fashioned” and “Fly Away Birdie.” Their performances included improv scat sections and beautiful harmonies. Soloists from this act included Michael Meija and MJ Codding. Mia Medellin and Alyssa Michel sang a duet of “A Night to Remember” by Laufey and Beabadoobee. At the end of the concert, Vocal Ensemble came back for one last song, singing “Down by the Riverside.” For the last number of the night, Concert Choir, the Cal State Fullerton Choir, and Vocal Ensemble came together to perform “Centerpiece” by Harry Edison, showing the impressive teamwork between all of the singers.
I LOVED going to report on this concert. I was blown away by the versatility of our singing coyotes, switching from soulful and emotional songs to comedic and lively in just one number. I plan on going to the next Winter Choral concert in December and encourage other coyotes to as well!
