Today we dive into the water polo game from this past Tuesday, September 24th. We had the chance to interview a water polo player, Liam Gallego. He’s from the varsity team as a junior. We asked Liam what was his part of being in the water polo team and he responded, “My favorite part about playing water polo is probably the teammates, because I like, I like the bond and the friendship, so we’ve grown over a couple years playing together.” One of the goals that he accomplished during water polo was reaching the CIF semifinals in his freshman year. Liam told us more about why people should join water polo, he said that people should join because they have a great atmosphere. They are all optimistic about each other, and just trying to bring each other up in his team. He also shared with us what inspired him to join the water polo team and what made him want to be part of the program. He commented “Pretty much just the same thing that I am telling other people to join, just all the friends and people that I knew I would have. It’s been great getting to like, knowing that I would see them for the first day and seeing them every day from then.” One of the challenges he had at the beginning was getting up to speed because water polo is a very fast-paced sport, and it’s a lot of conditioning to play all the time. That’s something he had to work on to become better and get practice to have better conditioning. Something he would like to improve is his conditioning, a lot more swimming, as he said before, so he can be faster because in the sport it’s important. Lastly, we asked what he learned from water polo; he answered, “Something I learned is just to stay optimistic because even when you make a bad play when you’re getting down, it’s important to stay optimistic. And just think about the next play that’s coming.”
The water polo game was at Buena Park High School against Fullerton. The game started at 4 pm and ended around 5:10 pm. Fullerton began by scoring the first two points but, after that, Buena Park scored. After the first quarter, it was 2-4 winning Fullerton. After a couple of minutes when the second quarter started BP scored and now it was 3-4.
The final score was 7-10. In conclusion, unfortunately, Buena Park couldn’t defeat the Fullerton water polo team. In fact the water polo team will have another game on October 1st, which hopefully they will take the win. Coyotes make sure to go and support the water polo team!
