College and Career Center
Today we visited the college and career center located inside the library. We were able to learn more about the opportunities they provide for the students at Buena Park High School. We are very happy to have companies/schools that come visit our school to help students. Many students see opportunities to ask questions and know more about college. It’s a way students can explore and decide their pathway for their future. We were able to talk and ask questions to Kyle Calderon, the college and career specialist. Our first question to him was, “What is your favorite thing about your job?” Mr. Calderon’s answer was, “Helping students figure out what they want to do after high school.” Mr. Calderon was able to give us some advice to help out the students at BPHS. He says, “It is not too early to start or late because most students come up to me at the last second asking for help choosing their career path.”
FAFSA
The FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is a crucial resource for students seeking financial assistance for college. By filling out the FAFSA, students can access federal grants, loans, and work-study opportunities to help cover educational expenses. It’s important to complete the application as early as possible since some aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The College and Career Center often provides workshops and resources to help students and their families navigate the FAFSA process. Additionally, many colleges use FAFSA information to determine eligibility for institutional aid. Completing the FAFSA can significantly reduce the financial burden of higher education, making college more accessible for many students.
Stanford University
Alexander Hipólito, a 17 year old senior, asked “ What is the acceptance rate?” the speaker said, “Students have to meet the GPA requirements and SAT requirements to stand out and have better chances in getting accepted, the possibility of getting accepted is 3.7% for Stanford University.”
