Today we dive into the water polo game from this past Friday, August 23rd. We had the chance to interview two water polo players, Yony Bautista and Philipe Mclean. Yony was the 1st player we interviewed. We asked Yony how long he had played Water Polo. Yony, a high school senior, has been playing water polo for 4 years. He balances practicing and schoolwork by doing all his work before practice. If he is unable to finish his homework he makes sure he completes everything right after practice. Our next interview was with Philipe Mclean. Philipe Mclean has been playing Water Polo for 3 years. One reason why Philipe chose to be in water polo was so he could get out of having PE class. Lastly, we interviewed a viewer of the sport/game. Her name was Kamaile Atoe. Atoe has been into water polo for a while because of her brother. She has always been watching the games and also plays for the Buena Park girls’ water polo team. Atoe plays Varsity and Junior Varsity. We asked her what she thought was the most exciting thing that had happened during August 23rd’s game. She replied that a block made by Liam during the 1st quarter was such a good move. When asked what is something people don’t know about water polo, Kamaile said “I think a lot of people underestimate how hard it is”.
The game in itself, was at Buena Park High School against Muir High. Muir scored midway through the 1st quarter by scoring a penalty, then Muir scored again later making it 2-0. But, Buena Park got a penalty shot number 18, which Jonathan, took and scored making it 1-3 at 2:34. Muir came back and scored with a minute left in the 1st period making the game 1-4, then again during the second quarter a score. With 6 minutes left for the 2nd quarter, Muir had a 5-point lead on Buena Park. Yony Bautista, a senior and 4-year Water Polo Vet, scored 3 minutes and 33 seconds in the 2nd quarter, scoring 2-6. All in all Buena Park, despite its efforts, lost to Muir High School.
Muir went on scoring 4 more points, and Buena Park then scored late into 3rd quarter making it 3-11 then Buena Park scored again with #18 scored during the 4th quarter with 6 minutes left. Muir went on scoring 3 more goals with Buena Park making one more in the last 2 minutes of the game, the player that scored was Liam #8.
The final score was 15-5. In conclusion, Buena Park took a devastating loss to Muir High School, Buena Park will try to do better the next game on August 31s the game will be an away game in Corona, the team that Buena Park is going against is assured to be determined.
